The 2012 Transport and Infrastructure working group helped to identify transport priorities across the region, supporting delivery of schemes through the Regional Transport Board and the supporting officer group.
The working group have helped to feed into ODA work on projects such as the Olympic Transport Plan, ensuring the views of the South East region are supported, particularly with the region hosting the rowing events at Eton Dorney. Work has also been done on consultations such as the designation of the Olympic Route Network, finalising the roads to be used for transporting athletes and the ‘Olympic Family’ around the time of the Games. The South East has both venue specific routes serving the rowing venue, as well as many of the access routes for the London venues and the sailing venue at Weymouth.
In order to deliver important schemes prior to the Games the region has successfully transferred funds from the Regional Funding Allocation to the local funding ‘blocks’. The following schemes have been funded in this way:
The region is continuing to support and deliver other targeted improvements to transport to ensure that the transport system is able to reflect the world class status of the region, particularly as a gateway for those visiting from other English regions and other countries around the time of the Games.
