Investment will be targeted at extending the reach of PR activities throughout Near Europe and emerging markets such as China and India. Activities have already included a presence at the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2008 to build relationships with the world’s media and also with Chinese travel trade and press representatives.
An ongoing Go! China campaign with South East partners is stimulating interest in, and business to, the region. There has also been an increase in press trips from France, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. To support promotional activity it is intended to produce high quality broadcast material such as DVD/Podcasts and photographic material; this should also be downloadable from websites. There is expected to be a need to produce printed collateral for distribution in London during the Games itself.
It is envisaged that the South East through partnerships with Visit Britain and Visit London could have a presence at the Winter Olympics in Canada and the Commonwealth Games in India both in 2010 and also closer to home at the Island Games on the Isle of Wight in 2011. Ultimately, there will be a need to have a presence at the London Games themselves in 2012.
One of the key markets is Business Tourism in the form of Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Events (MICE)
