Access Audits

As the Paralympic Games originated in the region at Stoke Mandeville,  it is a key outcome to ensure that the South East is the most accessible region duirng and post Games time.

Part of the on-going drive to use the 2012 Paralympics to raise the profile of developing and promoting access for the disabled in the South East Region, Funded by the Accentuate Programme, Tourism South East has led on Destination Access Audits at key places such as Windsor, Brighton, Winchester, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.  These audits have provided detailed reccommendations on how businesses, transport and accommodation providers could improve their service to be accessible to all.

The audits have also been supported by training seminars, website developments and PR activity using well known Paralympians such as Peter Norfolk.

Video case studies and podcasts have been produced using local businesses and Paralympic ambassadors such as Ade Adepitan and Peter Norfolk; these aim to promote the business case of companies becoming more accessible.

There is also specific support to increase the take up of the National Accommodation Quality Scheme in support of 2012 targets, including 1 to 1 personal advisory visits, training workshops and discounted inspection fees.
