The South East region has a lot to offer and a lot to gain from the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. The South East has many resources and advantages which present opportunities for us to play a significant role in delivering the London 2012 Games: our proximity to London; our position as a global gateway to Britain; and our world class sporting and cultural heritage. We are ideally placed to make the most of this once-in-a-generation opportunity and create a lasting economic, sporting and social legacy from the 2012 Games.
In 2005, London was awarded the honour of hosting the 2012 Games. The South East backed the bid and is an active participant in the Nations and Regions Group of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), established to ensure that the Games deliver UK-wide benefits, including a lasting legacy.
The South East Partnership for the London 2012 Games (SEP) has been formed to ensure that the South East delivers a world class performance so that every young person, every business, and every community has the opportunity to gain a positive legacy from the 2012 Games.
Led by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), key partners include Sport England, Tourism South East, Arts Council England South East, the Government Office for the South East, the Skills Funding Agency, Well Being South East, NHS South Central/South East Coastal, and Local Authorities.
